Healthy Children: Car Seat Safety Information for Families

I'm sure you have heard about the new car seat recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics(AAP) that state all infants & toddlers should ride in a Rear-Facing Car Safety Seat until they are 2 years of age or until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their car safety seat’s manufacturer.

Well, of course, being the "extreme planner" that I am, I immediately began researching which car seat I would buy for Piper once we stop using the infant carrier. Yes, she is 1 year old now, but she is not 20lbs & since she was a preemie, we had already decided to keep her rear facing past the 1 year mark even before we heard about these new recommendations.

To be honest, there are SO MANY different car seats out that there that trying to pick the "right one" is terribly overwhelming. So of course, I decided to ask our pediatrician what she recommended. She directed me to the Healthy Children website...and I was happy to see they have a very detailed list of car seats & safety seats manufacturers you can use when shopping for a new car seat for your little one.

To find this list of car seats & safety seat manufacturers, click here

This list makes it much easier to find what you're looking for because it includes the name of the seat, what type of harness is used, the rear-facing weight limits/forward-facing weight limits, the height limits AND the price!

And to make things even easier, you can also visit the "ease of use" list that the NHTSA compiled in order to help parents find the best seat for their needs!

I love finding all of the information I need in one convenient location! I hope this helps if you've been stressing over what to do since the new recommendations came out!

Good luck!

There may be variations in treatment that your pediatrician may recommend based on individual facts and circumstances. Prices are approximate and may vary. Although the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is not a testing or standard-setting organization, this guide sets forth the AAP recommendations based on the peer-reviewed literature available at the time of its publication, and sets forth some of the factors that parents should consider before selecting and using a car safety seat.
