Money Saving Tip: Shop at Thrift Stores

I'm a huge proponent of saving money where you can. And for me, that means being willing to sometimes buy used.  Before my daughter was born, I never even considered shopping at Goodwill, thrift stores or consignment stores for my clothes. Not because I was "too good" to shop there, but it truly never crossed my mind. But then I realized that if I could score hundreds of dollars worth of named brand baby clothes for less than $50 at consignment sales for my daughter, then I could possibly do the same thing for myself.

Last week I headed out to my local Goodwill to see if I could find any shorts or tshirts in good condition for myself (I wanted a few "new" pieces before  we left on vacation). After about an hour of searching through the racks, I left with 4 pieces (2 shirts, 1 pair of shorts & a pair of shoes) and had only spent $15.16!

  • 1 pair of Old Navy shorts-$3.79
    • The current price for shorts at Old Navy is $15 (so I technically saved $11.21 or 75%)
  • 1 Old Navy shirt- $3.79
    • The current price for tshirts at Old Navy is around $7.50 (saved $3.71 or 49%)
  • 1 Target Merona shirt (with the tags still on it!)- $3.79
    • The current price for tshirts at Target is around $8.00 (saved $4.21 or 53%)
  • 1 Pair of Mossimo leather sandals-$3.79
    • The current price for Mossimo leather sandals at Target is around $15 (saved $11.21 or 75%)
All of the pieces I purchased were in great condition & seemed like they had barely been worn! Yes, it took longer to go through the racks in order to find something I liked, but in my opinion, it was definitely worth it! I was able to buy $45.50 worth of clothes for only $15.16, for an average savings of $30.34 or 67%!!

So the next time you're trying to come up with easy ways to trim your budget & make the most of your money, consider heading down to your local thrift store (or consignment store) & spend a few hours searching the racks for a few treasures!

Enjoy!!
