Natural Remedy: Kids Honey Lemon Sore Throat Pops

My 2 year old daughter recently had a nasty little cold that caused her to have a sore throat.  I looked around for some 'cough drop' lollipops while I was at Target one day, but it was surprisingly hard to find them.

So, I was pretty excited to find this DIY tutorial for Kids Honey Lemon Sore Throat Pops from Homespun with Love!

Ingredients:
  • Honey: approximately 1 cup
  • Essential Lemon Oil: 3-4 drops
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Candy thermometer
  • Nonstick cookie mat or hard candy mold
  • How many lollipops you get will depend on what size you make them.
  • Have ready ahead of time your nonstick pad and lollipop sticks so that when the mixture is ready to work with, everything else is too.
Directions:
Using a medium sized pot, place on the stove, add honey, lemon oil and candy thermometer. You want the honey to reach 300 degrees. Once mixture is to temperature take off the heat and work carefully and quickly to spoon out about a teaspoon size bit of honey onto the mat and then place your lollipop stick into the blob. Let honey cool completely before removing.

Note: Honey should "NOT" be given to children 12 months or younger due to high risk for Botulism. Consult your pediatrician ahead of time.
